How high and wide to hang art over a console table

Treat the console and art as one composition. Choose the artwork width from the furniture, test the bottom clearance, then convert the resulting frame center into the real hook mark.

Short answerFor a 60 in console, test 36–45 in of total art width. A 30 in-high frame 8 in above a 34 in console has a 57 in center; with a 4 in drop, mark the hook at 68 in.

Choose a working width range

Using the console as the visual reference, Hangometry starts with 60–75% of its width. A 60-inch console produces a 36–45 inch art range. Test the real outline because lamps, sconces, tall objects, and wall trim can change the balance.

Build the height from the furniture upward

Suppose the console top is 34 inches from the floor and you test an 8-inch gap below a 30-inch-high frame. The frame bottom lands at 42 inches and the center at 57 inches.

Convert the center into a hook mark

If the tensioned wire or D-ring contact point sits 4 inches below the top edge, the hook belongs at 68 inches from the floor.

hook height = 57 + 15 − 4 = 68 in

Leave room for how the console is used

Check the tallest objects that will remain on the console, switches, outlets, thermostat controls, doors, and reflections from glass. A visually attractive gap is not useful if everyday objects collide with the frame.
